Climbing Kilimanjaro with Justin Caplan – Part 14

The real heroes of the climb are not the climbers. The real MVPs are the Embark Exploration Team members who continually supported us, motivated us, and cared for us.

This photo shows our four guides. They were some of the most amazing people I’ve ever met.

Their names are William, Mark, Frederick, and Augustine. Without their help, we would not have been successful.

Frederick is the guide in the green jacket, and he has hiked Kili a stunning 367 times!

It isn’t easy to put into words how big-hearted these people are. If they saw we were tired, they would offer to carry our backpacks. They would do health checks and use a pulse oximeter to make sure our oxygen levels were good. They did this twice every day – once in the morning and once in the evening.

In the same theme as our guides, 35 porters took care of everything from carrying food and tents plus all the necessary equipment.

The hearts of the people we met and the joy they shared with us will be imprinted on our hearts for the rest of our lives.
